Cantieri e carte nel Trecento sabaudo: contratti e contabilità

La documentazione contabile di cantiere consente di indagare non solo lo sviluppo tecnico della fabbrica (consistenza, materiali, tecniche costruttive), ma anche la vita sociale (gerarchie dei salari, competenze professionali, ruolo della committenza, rapporti di potere, condizioni di genere) e l’impatto ambientale delle diverse azioni in cui si organizza la “macchina” territoriale (reperimento delle materie prime, trasporti e attività logistiche, sopralluoghi ecc.). L’esegesi dei contratti e delle minuziose annotazioni di cantiere, prodotte dai funzionari sabaudi di primo Trecento – oggetto del saggio – offrono dunque informazioni interessanti sulla costruzione, ma anche appigli fragili ma fondamentali – in quanto quantificati, temporalizzati e spazializzati – per tentare di riconoscere quei valori sociali e culturali che animano il cantiere, e che possono il senso politico e territoriale dell’architettura. The construction site accounting documentation allows to investigate not only the technical development of the building (consistency, materials, construction techniques), but also the social life (wage hierarchies, professional skills, role of the client, power relations, gender conditions) and the environmental impacts of the various actions in which the territorial "machine" is organized (procurement of materials, transport and logistic activities, surveys, etc.). The exegesis of the contracts and the meticulous accounting annotations, produced by the Savoy officials of the early fourteenth century - the subject of the essay - therefore offer interesting information on the construction, but also fragile but fundamental holds - as quantified, temporalized and spatialized data - to try to recognize those social and cultural values that enliven the construction site, and that can give the political and territorial sense of architecture. La documentation comptable de chantier permet d'étudier non seulement l'évolution technique de la fabrique (consistance, matériaux, techniques de construction), mais aussi la vie sociale (hiérarchies salariales, compétences professionnelles, rôle du client, relations de pouvoir, conditions de genre) et les impacts environnementaux des différentes actions d'organisation de la «machine» territoriale (approvisionnement en matières premières, activités de transport et de logistique, contrôles et inspections, etc.). L'exégèse des contrats et des annotations minutieuses de chantier, produites par les officiers savoyards du début du XIVe siècle - objet de l'essai - offrent donc des informations intéressantes sur la construction, mais aussi des prises fragiles mais fondamentales – en tant qu’objet de quantification, temporalisation et spatialisation - pour repérer ces valeurs sociales et culturelles qui animent le chantier, et qui peuvent restituer le sens politique et territorial de l'architecture.
