The paper aims to investigate whether, and in what way, ICT can contribute to the regeneration of inner areas, which are significantly distant from the centers of supply of essential services, but rich in important environmental and cultural resources. In Italy about a quarter of the total population lives here, in a territory that represents about 65% of the total. The inner areas are asked today to play a significant role in the revitalization of the Country, that calls for innovative projects capable of regenerating the urban and social environment through the participation and inclusion of local communities. Platforms, applications and digital devices are progressively changing the relationship between users and urban space and therefore constitute a strategic potential in development projects: the possibility of carrying out more and more tasks online, and today’s consolidation of the digital economy and e-service, allow to mitigate inequalities between territories, promoting the development of the most disadvantaged centers.

Abstract
The paper aims to investigate whether, and in what way, ICT can contribute to the regeneration of inner areas, which are significantly distant from the centers of supply of essential services, but rich in important environmental and cultural resources. In Italy about a quarter of the total population lives here, in a territory that represents about 65% of the total. The inner areas are asked today to play a significant role in the revitalization of the Country, that calls for innovative projects capable of regenerating the urban and social environment through the participation and inclusion of local communities. Platforms, applications and digital devices are progressively changing the relationship between users and urban space and therefore constitute a strategic potential in development projects: the possibility of carrying out more and more tasks online, and today’s consolidation of the digital economy and e-service, allow to mitigate inequalities between territories, promoting the development of the most disadvantaged centers.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
