If we think about the historical experience of architecture, apart from the synchronic and diachronic repetition of the consolidated types – for example residential, templars or commercial – there aren’t many cases of ancient contexts that have produced an articulated genie, in the dimension of long term, of formal situations referable to them and which allow us to unequivocally attest to the charismatic status of “architectures o reference“. Villa Adriana is one of these rare cases and on the occasion of its thousand and ninetieth anniversary from the laying down of the first line drawn on the parchment, we are going to retrace the salient moments of this formal dissemination in the architecture of the western world, which is not only mimetic, but above all methodological.
