This report investigates the failure modes of rolling elements inside mechanical bearings. Particularly, it focuses on the relation between dimensional stability and fatigue behavior. Metallurgical, processing, dimensioning issues are analyzed. Some criteria to suitable define the design operation as well as the material process are drwan, as they fit needs of manufacturing the steel product. Some rules to update the availble models used to predict the fatigue life are defined.
