In 1998, corneal collagen cross-linking was first proposed as a treatment modality to stabilize the ectatic cornea. The pressure inside the eyes anterior chamber (IOP), the elastic properties of the cornea, and the related defractive properties of the eye were demonstrated to be dependent on the temperature of the ocular anterior chamber. In this paper the IOP related to the cross linking therapy is analysed in order to understand the possible consequences of the UV irradiation of the cornea in relation to any possible increase of the IOP. The results obtained highlight that an increase of the IOP occurs, but it returns back to the patients normal values.

Abstract
In 1998, corneal collagen cross-linking was first proposed as a treatment modality to stabilize the ectatic cornea. The pressure inside the eyes anterior chamber (IOP), the elastic properties of the cornea, and the related defractive properties of the eye were demonstrated to be dependent on the temperature of the ocular anterior chamber. In this paper the IOP related to the cross linking therapy is analysed in order to understand the possible consequences of the UV irradiation of the cornea in relation to any possible increase of the IOP. The results obtained highlight that an increase of the IOP occurs, but it returns back to the patients normal values.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
