Le scuole di Architettura nel teatro del mondo. Scena svizzera e tedesca. Potsdam School of Architecture. Cinque domande per un dialogo a quattro voci

Abstract Italiano - La Potsdam School of Architecture è una scuola giovane. È nata nel 1992, all’interno della Fachhochschule Potsdam, fondata un anno prima, subito dopo la caduta del muro di Berlino, nella capitale del Brandeburgo. In quanto Fachhochschule è per definizione e tradizione una scuola fortemente orientata al mondo del lavoro e della professione e i temi del progetto sono direttamente legati ai problemi reali della città e alle sue trasformazioni – di Potsdam e Berlino in primis, ma più in generale della città europea –. Inoltre è una scuola relativamente piccola, i cui 15 professori di architettura devono mettersi direttamente in questione: vengono ammessi ca. 80 studenti all’anno, le classi di progetto sono composte da 15-20 studenti, le revisioni sono settimanali e gli studenti lavorano individualmente all’interno di spazi di lavoro condivisi (Studio). Anche grazie a questa condizione particolare si è sviluppata nella scuola la consapevolezza di un lavoro condiviso come gruppo coeso, che ha saputo definire un profilo specifico focalizzato sulla Stadtarchitektur, sulla architettura della città. Alla fine degli anni Novanta, nel quadro delle riforme del processo di Bologna la Potsdam School of Architecture ha consolidato un modello 4+1, cioè 8 Semestri di Bachelor (che si concludono con una tesi semestrale) e 2 semestri di Master (con un unico progetto di tesi sviluppato su un anno intero senza soluzione di continuità). In questo modo è possibile formare una figura di architetto progettista completo, capace di misurarsi con le questioni teoriche e pratiche della cultura dell’architettura e della città. Per tutte queste ragioni crediamo che la Potsdam School of Architecture si possa considerare oggi un esempio interessante di scuola di architettura proprio rispetto a quei temi che le cinque domande pongono. Per le stesse ragioni abbiamo pensato che la migliore risposta a queste domande potesse venire non dall’intervista ad un singolo professore, ma da un dialogo a più voci tra i professori di progettazione che condividono questo progetto di scuola. English - The Potsdam School of Architecture is a young school. It has been estabished in 1992, within i the Fachhochschule Potsdam, founded in the capital of Brandenburg the previous year, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall. As a Fachhochschule (University of applied sciences) it is by definition and tradition a school strongly oriented towards the world of practical work and profession and its design topics are directly related to the real problems of the city and its transformations – in Potsdam and Berlin in the first place, but more generally in the European city. Furthermore, it is a relatively small school, whose 15 professors of architecture have to be personally engaged: approx. 80 students per year are accepted, design classes consist of 15-20 students, reviews take place weekly and students work individually within shared spaces (Studios). Also thanks to this particular condition the awareness of a common work carried on by a cohesive group, which has been able to define a specific profile focused on the Stadtarchitektur – on the architecture of the city – has developed in the school. At the end of the nineties, in the framework of the Bologna process reforms, the Potsdam School of Architecture set up a 4 + 1 model, namely 8 semesters of Bachelor (which conclude with a half-yearly thesis) and 2 semesters of Master Thesis project (with a single thesis project seamlessly spanning over a whole year). This makes it possible to form a complete figure of an architect-designer, able to tackle with the theoretical and practical issues of the architectural and urban culture. For all these reasons, we believe that the Potsdam School of Architecture can now a day be considered as an interesting example of architecture school just in respect to the issues that the five questions are raising. For the same reasons, we thought that the best answer to these questions could come not from an interview to a single professor, but from a multi-voice dialogue between some design professors who share this school project.
