This contribution intends to reflect on the possibility that an ethos of scarcity, considered as a collective emotion built/shaped thanks to, and upon, norms and rules that define our lifestyle, can be recognized in contemporary cities and societies. To do so, the contribution focuses on the case of Singapore, a city-state that has been characterized since its independence by limited availability of natural resources and is known as a developmental state with a quasi-authoritarian form of government.
