This paper illustrates the life and work of Prof. Galileo Ferraris, an Italian engineer and scientist, who dedicated his life (1847-1897) to the study of the electricity and its applications in the 19th century. His contributions to different engineering disciplines were remarkable, as well as were his efforts to develop and disseminate the electrical knowledge. In this paper, his publications and his formidable laboratory experiences from 1870 to 1897 are briefly discussed. All the original work of Galileo Ferraris, his numerous papers and books, is now available for free download from the digital repository of the central library of the Politecnico di Torino, the university that he contributed to create.
