C/C compositesandTi6Al4V sheetswerejoinedusinganovelCu/TiCuZrNicompositebrazeandtheeffectofCufoilthicknessonthe microstructure andmechanicalpropertiesofthejointswereinvestigated.Acompositejoiningmaterial,consistingofaTiCparticlereinforced brazing alloyformedinsituduringthebrazingprocesswasobtained.Beforethejoiningprocess,theC/Ccompositesurfacewasmodified by solid statereactionwithchromiumtoformachromiumcarbidecoating.ThiscarbidereactionlayercanreactwiththeTi-basedbrazingalloyand form evenlydistributedTiCparticles.Themaximumapparentshearstrengthofas-receivedjointwas3978.5 MPaobtainedbyusinga40 μm thick CufoiltogetherwiththeTiCuZrNialloy;thisvaluewas70%higherthanthemechanicalstrengthobtainedforjointsbrazedwiththe TiCuZrNi alloyonly.
