The article compares the performance of the Minuetto trains - of conventional type - to the one achieved by two Spanish trains provided with tilting systems, as alternatives to the rolling stock which is currently circulating in Sardinia, namely: Talgo XXI, of passive type, and CAF R 598, of the active one. The performances have been assessed in terms of mere coverage time in operation, nominal and theoretical carrying capacity of the line, with the support of the microsimulation railway software named OpenTrack. The simulation is aimed at comparing the potential performance provided by the different trains on the analysed line and at assessing the advantages the introduction of new rolling stock of the tilting type can ensure to the regional transport system of Sardinia.
