Conversation with the voices of the Amateur Architecture Studio: the Pritzker 2012 Wang Shu and his partner Lu Wenyu. They illustrate the meaning of such a Prize for the Chinese architecture. They explain both why, in Chinese architectural and landscape tradition, the concepts of “façade” and “elevation” were not important, while the one of “courtyard” was imperative; and how they translate these concepts in their architectures. They clarify in which way Aldo Rossi and Carlo Scarpa influenced their approach to architecture. They describe their academic activities in the China Academy of Art in Hangzhoug.
