Looking at the vertical walls of the existing building can represent a great opportunity to improve the green spaces within the urban areas. Growing interest is focused on plant integration not only on building roofs, but in particular on vertical walls. Public administration, research institutes and also manufacturing companies are looking with curiosity at this new sustainable technology. Starting from green envelope environmental functionalities description, through the summary of main actual technologies, up to norms and regulations analysis, main research fields and experimental experiences have been below described.
