Analisi multicriteri nella pianificazione di un bacino fluviale.

Environmental quality preservation and nature conservation are complex land use planning problems. In order to improve the consideration of environmental issues in territorial planning, the present paper proposes the adoption of a Multicriteria Spatial Decision System (MC-SDSS), that is based on the combined use of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA). The work considers the development of a MC-SDSS for the assessment of the environmental quality of the river basin of the Pellice torrent in the Province of Turin (Italy), with particular reference to the topic of the biodiversity conservation. In order to reach this purpose, biodiversity assets were divided into two main aspects, which represent the strengths and the weaknesses of the territory with reference to the environmental system. In the results of this approach, a final suitability of the area under examination has been generated. The map allows some critical areas needing mitigation measures to be identified as well as areas with high environmental quality to be highlighted, on which it will be possible to plan specific monitoring procrdures and valorization actions.
