The results on the characterization of oxides layers by means of a multi-technical approach are discussed. Pistons and refrigerator compressors were used as the sample on which the experiment was done. The samples were directly collected from a lot of production before and after the steam treatment. The results showed that the Mn initially present in the sulphide inclusions migrates in the oxide layers forming manganese oxide, and Fe ions takes its place inside the sulphite.
