The medieval Castle of Montalto Dora, at the opening of Aosta Valley, has been subjected to a careful architectonical intervention aimed at the restoration of macroscopic phenomena of damage on its external walls, embattled trenches and internal buildings' roofs, caused bt an inefficacious and incorrect system of water draining. The restoration project has been carried out after a cereful historical analysis, a direct survey of the castle and materials' testing: the internal building' roofs have been reconstructed, the embattled trenches, the angular towers and the external walls' stone coverings restored. The present article describes the restoration methodologies used on the different materials (bricks, stone and plaster), which have been based on specific laboratory and petrography analyses, in order to identify and assess the provenience of both pre-existing and restoration materials.

Abstract
The medieval Castle of Montalto Dora, at the opening of Aosta Valley, has been subjected to a careful architectonical intervention aimed at the restoration of macroscopic phenomena of damage on its external walls, embattled trenches and internal buildings' roofs, caused bt an inefficacious and incorrect system of water draining. The restoration project has been carried out after a cereful historical analysis, a direct survey of the castle and materials' testing: the internal building' roofs have been reconstructed, the embattled trenches, the angular towers and the external walls' stone coverings restored. The present article describes the restoration methodologies used on the different materials (bricks, stone and plaster), which have been based on specific laboratory and petrography analyses, in order to identify and assess the provenience of both pre-existing and restoration materials.Pubblicazioni consigliate
