The use of orthonormal scaling functions, wavelets and wavelet packets forpulse shaping has been recently proposed in [1]-[9]. Because of their excellent spectral characteristics, such waveforms can be used for Wavelet Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (WOFDM) [2] and spectral shaping [10], [11]. in this paper we study the performance of the Meyer, Danbechies, biorthogonal Spline, Battle-Lemarie and modified Gaussian [12] families of wavelets for modulation over linear and non-linear channels, and we propose the use of wavelets for pulse shaping over FDM non-linear satellite channels and for multicarrier modulation on satellite and multipath channels. Simulation results indicate that in certain cases wavelet based shaping pulses could out-perform traditional techniques in extremely critical transmissionconditions, such as interchannel interference impaired satellite transmission or transmission on multipath channels.
