Concentrated dispersions of Al(OH)3 in caustic solutions are examined in the presence and in the absence of additives. Sedimentation kinetics are influenced by the increase in viscosity of the solution due to the addition of the additives. Rheological data confirm the stabilization of the particles. Microscopy and light diffraction data show the effect of additives on the size and shape of the particles. Evidence of the influence of the additives on the nucleation and growth processes are given.

Abstract

Concentrated dispersions of Al(OH)3 in caustic solutions are examined in the presence and in the absence of additives.
