Post-war Belgrade offers a key case study for understanding the relationship between monumentality, modernity, and heritage in South-Eastern Europe. Focusing on New Belgrade and selected modernist interventions within the historic city, the abstract explores twentieth-century architecture not only as a material legacy, but also as a complex cultural and urban phenomenon. It addresses ongoing processes of patrimonialization, highlighting the tension between international recognition, institutional protection, and everyday local transformations. Through a multi-scalar approach, it argues for a broader understanding of Belgrade’s modern heritage as an active and evolving component of the contemporary city.

Abstract
Post-war Belgrade offers a key case study for understanding the relationship between monumentality, modernity, and heritage in South-Eastern Europe. Focusing on New Belgrade and selected modernist interventions within the historic city, the abstract explores twentieth-century architecture not only as a material legacy, but also as a complex cultural and urban phenomenon. It addresses ongoing processes of patrimonialization, highlighting the tension between international recognition, institutional protection, and everyday local transformations. Through a multi-scalar approach, it argues for a broader understanding of Belgrade’s modern heritage as an active and evolving component of the contemporary city.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
