The chapter presents a relational and critical reading of the notion of home. It does so by relying on geographical and feminist literatures, which are intersected with a processual and vitalist ontology of the social. The colonies of home is presented as a methodological tool to unpack the inherent violent logic of the homely, in its production of a necessary other upon which to fund its ontological security. To investigate such a logic, the chapters discusses two core functions reproducing the inherent violence of home in the West: expulsion and extraction. The working of these is illustrated looking at the case of Italy and, in particular, at how racial practice grounds expulsive and extractive modes of being and becoming at home in the country.

Abstract
The chapter presents a relational and critical reading of the notion of home. It does so by relying on geographical and feminist literatures, which are intersected with a processual and vitalist ontology of the social. The colonies of home is presented as a methodological tool to unpack the inherent violent logic of the homely, in its production of a necessary other upon which to fund its ontological security. To investigate such a logic, the chapters discusses two core functions reproducing the inherent violence of home in the West: expulsion and extraction. The working of these is illustrated looking at the case of Italy and, in particular, at how racial practice grounds expulsive and extractive modes of being and becoming at home in the country.Pubblicazioni consigliate
