Architecture is never autonomous. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear to what extent it is determined and influenced by external conditions. These conditions interact and thus define the scope within which architects operate with their designs. This plays a subordinate role in architectural discourse, where architecture is primarily viewed in terms of its supposed autonomy. This volume highlights the power of these conditions that shape architecture and the built environment. In order to use them productively in the design process, their modes of action must be understood in greater detail. A conscious approach to these conditions can help to make architecture more understandable as an activity rationally embedded in society.

Abstract
Architecture is never autonomous. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear to what extent it is determined and influenced by external conditions. These conditions interact and thus define the scope within which architects operate with their designs. This plays a subordinate role in architectural discourse, where architecture is primarily viewed in terms of its supposed autonomy. This volume highlights the power of these conditions that shape architecture and the built environment. In order to use them productively in the design process, their modes of action must be understood in greater detail. A conscious approach to these conditions can help to make architecture more understandable as an activity rationally embedded in society.Pubblicazioni consigliate
