This proposal is part of a broader research on the organisation of civil and military construction sites in the Savoy States during the early modern period (16th and 17th centuries) within the Research Center CHG Construction History of the DAD Department at the Politecnico di Torino. The aim is to explore a glossary of technical terms used on construction sites through the analysis of technical documents, known as “Instructions”, produced by architects and military engineers, with the goal of better understanding their role within the ducal construction sites. The glossary has been composed using primary and secondary sources on construction techniques in Piedmont, including major 19th-century building manuals. These sources have been cross-referenced with ongoing studies by construction history scholars. In this context, particular emphasis has been placed on the terms used for surveying and indicating the measuring tools employed by architects and military engineers in the realisation of their works at court, considering the urban scale and the scale of the buildings.

Abstract
In this context, particular emphasis has been placed on the terms used for surveying and indicating the measuring tools employed by architects and military engineers in the realisation of their works at court, considering the urban scale and the scale of the buildings.Pubblicazioni consigliate
