The term “Self-healing materials” refers to materials that are capable of fully or partially repairing themselves when they experience damage with a local or global functionality loss. Local functionality loss occurs when a section of a material or structure exhibits degraded performance when compared with the rest of the material. Global functionality loss occurs when the material or structure exhibits degraded performance compared to its performance prior to any exposure to operational actions.
