This chapter synthesizes the insights gained from the roundtable discussions held during the Rehabilitation of Traditional Heritage and Local Developement seminars, focusing on the intersections between community engagement, the rehabilitation of traditional heritage, and local development. Organized into three main sections, it explores critical themes that emerged through dialogue among NGOs' representatives, academics, and practitioners. The first section, Community, examines the dynamics between local communities and external actors, highlighting challenges and opportunities in fostering collaboration and mutual understanding. The fruitful exchange between local and external perspectives underscores the need for inclusive approaches to heritage rehabilitation and sustainable development. The second section, Rehabilitation of Traditional Heritage, addresses the evolving role of technology in heritage conservation. It discusses its different conceptions and perceptions of heritage and traditions, the various source of documentation, and the processes of technology transfer and innovation. Special emphasis is placed on intergenerational transmission, showcasing how traditional knowledge can be adapted and shared in contemporary contexts. The roundtable also explored how heritage values are shaped through social and cultural processes, highlighting the tension between 'universal' and local narratives. The third section, Local Development, critically reflects on how the concepts of 'heritage' and 'development' are understood and contested. It explores the local development processes that the NGOs contribute to activate, the contributions of interdisciplinary teams, the impact of tourism, and the challenges of sustaining initiatives in the long term. Finally, it considers NGOs’ strategic planning for future actions, focusing on sustainable practices and the empowerment of marginalized communities. By combining practical experiences with theoretical insights, this chapter highlights the potential of heritage-based initiatives to foster inclusive and sustainable local development. It provides valuable perspectives for stakeholders involved in the preservation of cultural identity and the reactivation of marginalized areas, bridging the gap between academic discourse and grassroots practices.

Abstract
It provides valuable perspectives for stakeholders involved in the preservation of cultural identity and the reactivation of marginalized areas, bridging the gap between academic discourse and grassroots practices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
