The development of Mudéjar art in Aragon, initiated in the 12th century, was the result of the unique political, social, and cultural conditions of the region. According to the World Heritage declaration of Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon, this artistic style is primarily found along the Ebro River valley and its southern tributaries in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula. Therefore, it can be considered as valley architecture closely linked to its geography and the surrounding agricultural landscape. Since the early 20th century, the restoration of Mudéjar art has followed various criteria and trends. In this contribution, we aim to highlight the fundamental role of photographic sources as essential resources for understanding restoration processes, which complement other primary sources such as the projects themselves.

Abstract
The development of Mudéjar art in Aragon, initiated in the 12th century, was the result of the unique political, social, and cultural conditions of the region. According to the World Heritage declaration of Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon, this artistic style is primarily found along the Ebro River valley and its southern tributaries in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula. Therefore, it can be considered as valley architecture closely linked to its geography and the surrounding agricultural landscape. Since the early 20th century, the restoration of Mudéjar art has followed various criteria and trends. In this contribution, we aim to highlight the fundamental role of photographic sources as essential resources for understanding restoration processes, which complement other primary sources such as the projects themselves.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
