In the early modern period, since the middle of the sixteenth to the end of the eighteenth century, in Piedmont the technical professions became an example of local power, able to answer to the "limit", the border not only in many difficult situations. In the sabaudian dukedom and in its capital-city Turin, engineers and architects showed their role taking part of the City Council first like privileged speakers and mediator and then, sometimes, like mayor, reinforcing their character because of their education and skills.
