With the current declining trends, energy and raw materials have become focal points for sustainable development. Safeguarding mineral resources in a sustainable matter became a great challenge in Europe, especially for Critical Raw Materials. These strategic commodities are fundamental for the energy transition. Securing mineral supply depends on the type of deposits, which determines the mineral quantity and quality. Instead, mineral project development is defined by the technical feasibility and the related environmental socio-economic viability. These factors are strongly embedded in the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources. UNFC is a global, principle-based reporting system developed in accordance with the Agenda 2030. It is based on three fundamental pillars: the environmental-socio-economic viability, the technical feasibility, and the degree of confidence in product estimates. The Titanium deposit of Piampaludo was the subject of this case study to underline the process for social and environmental considerations when reporting in UNFC. The Piampaludo Titanium deposit is one of the greatest in Europe, yet it remains bounded by serious environmental and social contingencies. The application of UNFC in this case study gives a comprehensive outlook on the project’s maturity under the given circumstances. In this paper, a potential solution for the recovery of the Piampaludo Titanium is briefly explored by implementing biotechnology to the given resource. Finally, the United Nations Resource Management System is introduced as part of the case study to highlight its importance in sustainable resource management.
