Abstract

Commercial SOFC systems can be fed versatility with syngas, biogas and other gas mixture streams, mainly containing methane gas. The most important issues for such systems are related to their durability and stability considering the fuel composition. Trace elements from ppb(v) to unit of ppm(v) can affect irreversibly the anodic structure of these systems. Sulphur compounds and siloxane are the most important trace compounds that can irreversibly affect energy generation. Biogas produced by dry anaerobic digestion is monitored regarding trace compounds, considering sulphur, chlorine, siloxane, and complex compounds (Cx,HxY...). The analysis was accomplished with PTR-ToF-MS, in different projects considering the biological aspects for the trace compound formation, following the trace removal with solid sorbents, and achieving the SOFC system impact and the related performance decreasing.
