The contribution focuses on ski resorts and their crisis scenarios due to climate changes, increasingly rising operating costs for snowmaking and therefore defining a new limit for reliable snow at 1500 m. Considering the relationships between tourism, environment, landscape and infrastructures, such challenge requires to be tackled by building prospective scenarios which may consider the option of tuning new infrastructural interventions, such as the development of higher ski districts, with more radical choices including the abandon or the conversion of lower areas to different activities. This also may help in better managing the major issues of energy and water supply, highly impactful both in terms of economic and environmental sustainability when developing ski resorts.

Abstract
The contribution focuses on ski resorts and their crisis scenarios due to climate changes, increasingly rising operating costs for snowmaking and therefore defining a new limit for reliable snow at 1500 m. Considering the relationships between tourism, environment, landscape and infrastructures, such challenge requires to be tackled by building prospective scenarios which may consider the option of tuning new infrastructural interventions, such as the development of higher ski districts, with more radical choices including the abandon or the conversion of lower areas to different activities. This also may help in better managing the major issues of energy and water supply, highly impactful both in terms of economic and environmental sustainability when developing ski resorts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
