Chapter 3 investigates in detail the potential production chains of hydrogen, discussing about the different “colours” of hydrogen and the technologies needed for producing it. These chains are then correlated with the acquisition of the needed raw materials and with the possible geopolitical criticalities related to new dependencies deriving from their supply, also discussing possible options – based on new ongoing research activities (like those on Oxygen Evolution Reaction catalysts) – for by-passing this issue. Furthermore, a perspective analysis related to the emerging scenarios for hydrogen industry is performed.
