From the outset Olivetti was perhaps the most international of Italian companies, steering clear of the Made in Italy1 rhetoric and devoting itself instead to the search for external contributions from the world of business, design and communication. It was a result achieved with skill and attention to favourable conditions, mixing all the ideas that had been gathered since the very first years of its activity. Thanks to the farsightedness of its management, made up mostly of a group of technical intellectuals, it generated a unique and unmistakable Olivettian, rather than Italian, style.

Abstract

From the outset Olivetti was perhaps the most international of Italian companies, steering clear of the Made in Italy1 rhetoric and devoting itself instead to the search for external contributions from the world of business, design and communication. It was a result achieved with skill and attention to favourable conditions, mixing all the ideas that had been gathered since the very first years of its activity. Thanks to the farsightedness of its management, made up mostly of a group of technical intellectuals, it generated a unique and unmistakable Olivettian, rather than Italian, style.
