The Sino-Italian Science and Technology Park/Research Institute was thanks to the high level cooperation between the city of Luoyang (China) and the city of Turin (Italy). The concept idea was to create an exchange platform for business, industrial research, education and promotion between Italy and China. This cooperation started as a students exchange program in cooperation with Politecnico di Torino and quickly developed in a new form with much wider goals. Thanks to the support of the government of the city of Luoyang and to the former Minister of Education Prof. Francesco Profumo a strong link was created and the idea of a Sino-Italian Science and Technology Park became reality. The innovative design was developed by Prof. Roberto Pagani and his team, as a gift to the city of Luoyang. The Technology Park is composed of 4 buildings, 3 for business use and one hotel/services. Designed to be self sustainable through the use of geothermal pumps, photovoltaic panels and thick insulation it is an example for all China. The internal atrium of each building is a garden with sunlight coming from the glass roof.
