The interpretation of the urban form is defined by elements, single cells and congruous aggregates capable of describing urban cross sections which interpret and suggest the image of the city. After the earthquake of 1953, Zakynthos had to recreate its entire urban system. The almost complete destruction of the centre forced to focus on the importance of the original urban shape and the preservation of citizens’ rights and memories. Today, through the reading of what the urban system was and what it constitutes, we can highlight modalities of use and assess continuous transformations in contemporaneity.
