At all periods of ancient Egyptian construction history, from the 1st Dynasty (c. 3000 BC) to Roman times, vaults were applied successfully with mud-brick, burnt brick, stone, and also in rock-cut tombs. However, there were little practical variations in the form and the techniques, from one site to another and from period to another, which rapidly were developed in the benefits of the vaults. This variety of process witnesses the skilled architects and shows that the builders were fully acquainted with the principles of arch and vault construction at a very early time.

Abstract
At all periods of ancient Egyptian construction history, from the 1st Dynasty (c. 3000 BC) to Roman times, vaults were applied successfully with mud-brick, burnt brick, stone, and also in rock-cut tombs. However, there were little practical variations in the form and the techniques, from one site to another and from period to another, which rapidly were developed in the benefits of the vaults. This variety of process witnesses the skilled architects and shows that the builders were fully acquainted with the principles of arch and vault construction at a very early time.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
