Abstract
Palazzo Colonna is one of the greatest and most ancient building in Rome. During the 18th century it was completely remodelled under the patronage of Constable Fabrizio IV Colonna and his brother Cardinal Girolamo II, who also contributed to increase the traditional artistic collections of the family. To realise the new construction architects such as Nicola Michetti, Nicola Salvi and Paolo Posi were called, among the most important artists in the Papal Court. The remodelling also implied a new project for the ancient Colonna Garden at the slopes of the Quirinal hill, together with the reutilization of the ruins of the Temple of Serapis. Before his untimely death, Cardinal Girolamo began the construction of his suburban residence, near via Nomentana, that would become "Villa Torlonia" a century later.Pubblicazioni consigliate
