Post war/disaster recovery of historical cities and cultural heritage sites

The absence of a shared homogeneous post-crisis intervention strategy on historical contexts has witnessed, in recent years, the manifestation of an intense debate about the opportunities and criticalities related to the transformation of the contexts at risk. This book aims to stimulate a more conscious view on the subject of intervention/conservation of architectural assets destroyed by natural or war phenomena. A new approach would guide experts to better understand which intervention strategy would be the most suitable for the protection of architectural heritage or, in case of destruction, for its historical memory. By analyzing a series of internationally relevant case studies, the book aims to provide new suggestions and possible lines of mediation to operate on damaged contexts, and to assess whether even the conservation of traces could be an operation of reconstruction of identity.
