Using institutional and media communication analysis as a tool to shape the multifaceted urban security

This chapter presents the results of a one-month-research activity carried out by Maurizio Pioletti in POA, in August 2016. The research was based on a policy analysis approach (Crosta, 2010), so it aimed to understand the role of the main actors involved, and their actions and interactions, as well as to reconstruct their rationalities and argumentations. The work was organized in two main activities. First, interviewing a selected range of key actors from institutions and media engaged in ‘urban security’ in the area of POA. Second, analysing the communication on ‘ urban security’ in the main local media. In particular, the archives of the two most important newspapers, Correio do Povo and Zero Hora were consulted.
