What is the contemporary meaning of the conservation of the cultural heritage? What are the challenges that the architectural project is facing when it operates on pre-existing buildings that have a cultural value? The conventional conservation practices are put in crisis by a new paradigm. While conservation petrifies and prevents subsequent evolutions, preservation accepts the change and assumes evolution and transformation as the occasions to face the survival of the cultural heritage over time. The perspective introduced by the responsibility of the intangible heritage and the transition from the culture of conservation to the culture of preservation makes evident the complexities and contradictions of the contemporary cultural policies and their operative tools on architecture.

Abstract
What is the contemporary meaning of the conservation of the cultural heritage? What are the challenges that the architectural project is facing when it operates on pre-existing buildings that have a cultural value? The conventional conservation practices are put in crisis by a new paradigm. While conservation petrifies and prevents subsequent evolutions, preservation accepts the change and assumes evolution and transformation as the occasions to face the survival of the cultural heritage over time. The perspective introduced by the responsibility of the intangible heritage and the transition from the culture of conservation to the culture of preservation makes evident the complexities and contradictions of the contemporary cultural policies and their operative tools on architecture.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
