Cartografie tematiche di densità: nuovi strumenti per lo studio di fatti urbani e territoriali

In this paper GIS mapping techniques have been analyzed as new tools for the investigation of urban and regional scale phenomena. The importance to make new thematic representations is related to complexity of the space investigated that has been selected in the territories in between Turin and Milan. Particularly the paper analyses some aspects related to “density maps” that can be used to identify and define “heritage areas”, which are localized in the surrounding landscape of infrastructure. This territorial analysis, based on GIS technique, can prove to be a very potential tool to support spatial planning strategies in the field of cultural heritage. The density criteria allows to represent such particular distribution and configuration of cultural heritage points, showing in a very effective way, which areas could be considered to apply new valorization strategies. Different maps show the results of GIS density analysis, based on the cultural heritage distribution, on the services configuration and on the possible combinations between them. New approaches and new tools seem to be necessary to develop new strategies for management of urban and regional scale phenomena.
