The current trend in transport planning and management is to pay a growing attention to the policies addressed to reduce the environmental concerns and to respect the strict constraints the international community is setting. Within this context, the author wants to give an overview of the different approaches followed by the actors playing a role in the EU arena, when they propose some solutions to go towards a sustainable transport, and analyze how Italy fits the EU policy. In such a framework, an analysis of the current trends of the Italian mobility (passengers and freights) and of the decision makers approach in going towards a sustainable transport, compared with the other European countries, is given.

Abstract
The current trend in transport planning and management is to pay a growing attention to the policies addressed to reduce the environmental concerns and to respect the strict constraints the international community is setting. Within this context, the author wants to give an overview of the different approaches followed by the actors playing a role in the EU arena, when they propose some solutions to go towards a sustainable transport, and analyze how Italy fits the EU policy. In such a framework, an analysis of the current trends of the Italian mobility (passengers and freights) and of the decision makers approach in going towards a sustainable transport, compared with the other European countries, is given.Pubblicazioni consigliate
