This work stems from the need to find a solution for the management of waste in an area of medium extension, where today the disposal is based mostly on the landfill, which will be soon exhausted. The considered solution must be compatible with the constraints of legislation (Legislative Decree 36/2003) and the criticality of the analyzed area analyzed (lack of new sites for Landfills in nature and problems of sanitation and environmental issues arising from the Landfill). The proposed solution involves the construction of an incinerator and rehabilitation, through the technique of Landfill Mining, of the landfill. This solution has been tested as concerns the technological and the environmental aspects. In particular in the technological field the combustion and the flue gas treatment technology have been evaluated as concerns the best solutions, and by using the tools of the mass balance all the process features have been defined. In the environmental field, by using the tools of the environmental balance and by implementation of pollutant dispersion and immission model we evaluated the potential impact effects of plant activation on air quality. The evaluations so defined can be considered very interesting both from the point of view of the particular territorial case that has been considered, or more generally, as an useful approach to be followed from a methodological point of view.
