LargescaleculturalheritagedatasetsandcomputationalmethodsforthehumanitiesresearchframeworkarethetwopillarsofDigitalHumanities(DH),aresearchfieldaimingtoexpandhumanitiesstudiesbeyondspecificsourcesandperiodstoaddressmacroscoperesearchquestionsonbroadhumanphenomena.Inthisregard,thedevelopmentofmachine-readablesemanticallyenricheddatamodelsbasedonacross-disciplinary“language”ofphenomenaiscriticalforachievingtheinteroperabilityofresearchdata.Thispaperreports,documents,anddiscussesthedevelopmentofamodelforthestudyofreadingexperiencesaspartoftheEUJPI-CHprojectReadingEuropeAdvancedDataInvestigationTool(READ-IT).ThroughthediscussionoftheREAD-ITontologyofreadingexperience,thiscontributionwillhighlightandaddressthreechallengesemergingfromthedevelopmentofaconceptualmodelforthesupportofresearchonculturalheritage.Firstly,thiscontributionaddressesmodellingformulti-disciplinaryresearch.Secondly,thisworkaddressesthedevelopmentofanontologyofreadingexperience,underthelightoftheexperienceofpreviousprojects,andofongoingandfutureresearchdevelopments.Lastly,thiscontributionaddressesthevalidationofaconceptualmodelinthecontextofongoingresearch,thelackofaconsolidatedset of theories and of a consensus of domain experts.
