The paper investigates the opportunities offered by the application of BioTRIZ methodology to phytotechnology for the improvement of indoor air quality. The TRIZ methodology has been used to solve complex problems in engineering systems. Plant-based technology is considered effective for the improvement of indoor air. It is an interdisciplinary field of study that involve technical and biological competencies to elaborate effective interventions. Living wall technology requires a good cooperation between engineering and botanical aspects for correct system operation. BioTRIZ implements engineering approach in management of living systems and it could provide a way to address complex issues in bio design. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate its applicability to design practice.
