Abstract

Over the last decades, Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology has flourished all over the world, heavily influencing processes and procedures of the construction sector. Significant reports outlined BIM as a strategic tool to improve infrastructure quality and better environmental performance. ANAS SpA is a public industrial company, leader into the Italian market of design, construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructures and it also represents the main case study of the research. The research describes ANAS efforts in BIM implementation, focusing on obligations in contract documents related to the information management and award criteria in public tenders. Data collected from ANAS tenders have been analysed in order to compare relative strictness of obligations and award criteria with market responses. In conclusion, main limitations and possible future developments were discussed, related to advantages deriving from the mandatory adoption of BIM methodology, lacks and misinterpretation of the Italian decree effectiveness with BIM meth-ods.
