The paper presents a novel and simple model to analyze multi-n-phase electric machines. A parametric model is given together with the mathematical rules that defines the optimal machine structure giving a prediction of torque ripple harmonic orders. The model is applied to two multi-n-phase motors and their performance indicators are given to validate the model. The possibility to strongly reduce the torque ripple is presented as the more relevant result when a proper choice in the electric machine main numbers is done

Abstract

The paper presents a novel and simple model to analyze multi-n-phase electric machines. A parametric model is given together with the mathematical rules that defines the optimal machine structure giving a prediction of torque ripple harmonic orders. The model is applied to two multi-n-phase motors and their performance indicators are given to validate the model. The possibility to strongly reduce the torque ripple is presented as the more relevant result when a proper choice in the electric machine main numbers is done
