The concept of resilience, which is typical of the natural sciences, has influenced many other research fields including anthropology, human geography and other social sciences. Nowadays, the concept of resilience has firmly entered debates in planning theory and practice. This paper aims to take part in the recent debate starting from its multiple meanings and on investigating its implication for the protected areas in Europe. The paper will provide a reflection on the ethical value of the concept of resilience applied to the prospects of a new territorial governance for the protected areas in Europe.
