This article traces the history of the Palace of Justice and the prison complex of Trento, buildings that are part of the historic fabric of the city and for which it is desirable to draft recovery and exploitation of space. The adopted research methodology follows two approaches: at first I studied the historical and critical background, which inserts the construction event of the new judicial complex in the scenario of architectural and cultural transformations of the city of Trento between the mid-nineteenth century and the annexation to Italy. Next, I analyzed the archival material that covers the times of the beginning of construction of the building, addressing in particular the complex event of the expropriation of land. This work of historical research is therefore a mixture of primary and secondary sources, which provide a complex and articulated framework of the construction history of the building justice. Stock research led to the conclusion that the artifacts that make up the prisons and the courts have to be considered together, because they are designed as a single complex.
