The policy for historical centres rehabilitation in Iraq is marked by serious lacks and by the conflicts concerning the making of an inclusive and shared cultural identity. Following its evolution the author points out the controversial contribution given by modernity, bearer of new identity values but also responsible of the removal of the historical city’s values. The paper deals with the aftermaths of such a contradiction, presenting some interventions today underway, where a paradoxical notion of heritage puzzles both the cultural and the technical responses, opening to disruptive choices. + + + + + + + + + + + + I gravi ritardi che connotano la politica del recupero dei centri storici in Iraq sono fortemente segnati dalle conflittualità inerenti la formazione di un’identità culturale inclusiva e condivisa. Nel ripercorrere tale formazione l’autore sottolinea il controverso apporto fornito dalla cultura moderna, portatrice di nuovi valori identitari ma anche responsabile della rimozione di quelli propri alla città storica. Il testo si sofferma sulle conseguenze di questo fatto, leggibili in alcuni interventi oggi in itinere, dove una controversa nozione di bene culturale è all’origine di scelte distruttive.
