The essay discusses Le Corbuiser’s influence to contemporary urban redevelopment and planning with the example of the Diagonal Mar Park in Barcelona, designed by the Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue (EMBT) and completed in 2000. The design strategy behind Diagonal Mar Park recalls urban models elaborated by Le Corbusier already in the 1920s: a continuous green ground, organized as a sequence of functional open spaces and playgrounds, from which high-density residential blocks emerge. While during the 1970s and 1980s the model proposed by Le Corbusier was refused, the essay argues that his idea of a city as an uninterrupted park seems to be still suitable for contemporary urban developments. Barcelona’s urban renewal, with its focus on the Diagonal Mar Park, combines a continuous pattern of open spaces with new residential areas. The park itself acts as the connective tissue between different parts of the city.

Abstract
The park itself acts as the connective tissue between different parts of the city.Pubblicazioni consigliate
