the objective of this paper is to demonstrate the influence of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) on the energy consumption of public transport. Particularly, the work investigates the benefits in terms of energy consumption given by a public transport priority policy. The model presented in this paper is based on the assumption that the total energy consumption of a vehicle, in this case a tram line vehicle, can be intended as the sum of three contributions: consumption for traction, consumption for winning motion resistances, consumption for auxiliary systems. On average, waiting time at traffic lights is lower when fixed plan control is applied, but also the probability of no waiting at stop line is considerably higher when priority policies are activated.

Abstract

the objective of this paper is to demonstrate the influence of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) on the energy consumption of public transport.
