The research work proposes a reflection about transforming existing city. The paper focus about transformation projects which considering the addition of part and volumes an opportunity to redefine performance and architectural appeal of existent building and renovate the whole city functioning. The research refers to urban living context and housing quality, by using timber technology as method to read the change towards new "smart" urban environment. This topic becomes the driving force at the center of development actions in many European medium cities, promoting a new research approach against soil consumption. Thus represent an opportunity to experiment new forms of living and search further directions for the building sector. Wood can be seen as the most suitable material for these interventions, it offers the opportunity to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions during the entire construction process and the building life cycle.

Abstract
